Paula Christine Hopkins
March 24, 1970 – June 9, 2023
It is with much sadness we announce the passing of Paula Hopkins from this world on June 9th after a lengthy battle with brain cancer.
She was an amazing woman who almost always had a huge smile on her face. She loved children and animals and had the ability to make you feel like the greatest person in the world with just a few words.
An advocate of equality, she proudly wore lgbtq+ shirts and pins in support of the community and never minced words about her support. She wanted to help anyone and everyone who was hurting or in need.
Her moments of heart swelling pride all revolved around her son, Carey, whom she loved more than life itself and the pride and love showed in her eyes every single time she looked at him or spoke of him.
She was an amazing wife as well, and being fortunate enough to have had her love for the last ten years has ultimately made me a better person and empty without her. She always called me “her heart” and I called her “my reason.” Her loss is devastating, and the world is a slightly less beautiful place without her in it.
I will love you forever baby girl, be at peace with our loved ones now.
She leaves to mourn, Her husband, Ryan, of Fort McMurray, AB; son, Carey Penton, of Fort McMurray, AB; daughter-in-law, Emilie Diduch, of Fort McMurray, AB; parents, Vera and Cal Wells, Fogo, of Newfoundland & Labrador; siblings: Roland (Cindy) Wells, Fogo, of Newfoundland & Labrador, Debbie (Jim) Hart Fogo, of Newfoundland & Labrador, Paul (Pamela)Wells, of Brampton, Ontario, Sonya (Kirt) Murray, of Medicine Hat, Alberta; , mother-in-law, Carol Hopkins, of Fort McMurray, AB; sisters-in-law, Anastacia Hopkins, of St. John’s, Newfoundland & Labrador, and Kelly Hopkins, of Fort McMurray, AB, as well as many nephews, nieces, cousins, extended family and friends.
A Wake will be held from 12:00 NOON to 2:00 PM (2:00 PM – 4:00 PM EDT, 3:30 PM – 5:30 PM GMT) on Wednesday, June 14, 2023, at Fort McMurray Funeral Home, 225-B MacDonald Crescent.

Sending love, compassion, and care to all of Paula’s family as you face together a journey that no one wants to walk-having to continue on in this life without her. When you lose someone so close, you lose a part of yourself too. Please let your emotions be what they need to be…cry, scream, smile, reflect on the special times. My thoughts are with all of you as you face the next few days to say so long for now…Paula’s light will continue to shine because you will ensure she is always there surrounding you.

We are so sorry to hear of Paula’s passing. I have lots of good memories when we worked together at Robin’s Donuts in Fort Mac . She was a good friend. We had many laughs. I am so sorry for your loss, I knew Paula when we were little we used, play tag and she was so amazed laugh beautiful smile .

Her smile definitely did light up the room when she entered and maintained a warm glow while she was present. To be missed is an understatement, Paula had the warmth like the sun on a bright summer day that seemed to energize the area around her.
Will be loved and missed by so many friends and family.
I hate that this happened. I am so very very angry that Paula was dealt this horrible card.
I knew her as part of “Paul and Paula” since kindergarten and I’m so sad that I won’t see her again.
Her smile was brilliant. Her love for her son was inspiring and gorgeous. The love and pride in him could be seen in the pics she posted on Facebook. Although her pups came in a close second!

My deepest condolences to Ryan, Carey and Wells/Hoskins famillies. We used to be in the church youth group together and although I was a few years younger she would always try to include me in with her friends so I would not be left out. I always remember that…thank you. May god grant you all peace. Godspeed Paula.

I haven’t kept up with Paula since high school but fondly remember her as a force that marched to her own drum – I’m not surprised to hear that as an adult she advocated for others.
