Benjamin “Ben” George Honsberger

April 4, 1968 – September 25, 2023

It is with heavy hearts that the family announces the passing of Benjamin Honsberger, due to a brief illness, on Monday September 25, 2023 in Fort McMurray, Alberta. Ben is lovingly remembered and cherished by his parents Floyd and Wenda Honsberger, his sisters Carolee Stangl (Michael) and Ruth Meighan (Kelly), as well as aunts, uncles, cousins and his many close friends. He is the loving uncle to Rachel and Austin. He will also be sadly missed by his four legged companion, George.

Ben had a good life that was full of integrity and discipline. He took a lot of pride in his work in construction and concrete in Fort McMurray, Alberta. When he wasn’t working on site, he could be found engaging in some of his many hobbies such as fishing and hunting, which he also enjoyed in his earlier years. Ben also spent majority of his time with his dog, George. George was Ben’s pride and joy, where the two were inseparable. Ben’s life, although far too short lived, touched and impacted the community he surrounded through his charisma and wit. He was always there to lend a helping hand, big or small, and enjoyed coming back to Ontario in order to reconnect with family and friends that were near and dear to him.

The family would like to thank the attentive care that Ben was given by all staff while he was at Fort McMurray General Hospital. After Ben’s passing, there was great uncertainty as to where George would be placed. The Fort McMurray SPCA ensured that George would be held there with great care, and was adopted shortly after. In lieu of flowers, if friends so desire, please consider a donation to your local SPCA or your local palliative care unit, or to any charity that works diligently with animals and palliative related illness.
While the family continues to cope with this loss, a celebration of life will be decided and posted at a later date.
