Alfred Martin Wendell Phillips
Fort McMurray
February 27, 1971 – April 29th, 2022
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Alfred Martin Wendell Phillips, age 51, on April 29th 2022 in Fort McMurray, Alberta.
Wendell was born on February 27th, 1971, to Allister and Marg Phillips. He was raised in the village of Whycocomagh, Cape Breton and then moved on to live in Baddeck for a short time before moving to Fort McMurray in 2008.
Over the years Wendell made many friends, and was in turn, a kind, generous friend. He always wanted everyone around him to feel joy and helped you to remember not to sweat the small stuff and to remember that everything was the small stuff!
All of Wendell’s jobs were physical labour and he earned the respect of the people around him as a hard worker. In the last decade, after a serious health scare with diverticulitis and nine operations to save his life, Wendell still did physical labour. He suffered with this severe disability and did his work with barely a complaint to anyone. To say he was the toughest among us, is an understatement of great proportions.
Wendell will be dearly missed by his parents, Allister and Marg Phillips, his brothers, Byron Phillips (Jane Prentice), and Ralph Phillips (Anne Pichora, Evan Pichora, Bennett Milanes Pichora), his niece Hannah Phillips, nephews Tommy Prentice and Keegan Munk-Phillips, nibling and namesake, Carson Wendell Munk-Phillips, his close friend, Donna Chubb, her son Brady Gale and his many aunts, uncles, and cousins. He will also be dearly missed by the many friends he has made throughout the years. He was predeceased by his maternal grandparents, Sadie and Louis Carey and his paternal grandparents Laura and Byron Phillips, his aunts Phyllis Fraser and Catherine Rudderham, and his uncles Thomas Carey, Raymond Carey, John Carey and Donald Carey.
A small, private graveside service will be held at a later date.
Wendell loved animals, so in lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Wendell’s name to any animal shelter of your choice.

Thinking of all of the family. I went to Whycocomagh school with Wendell and remember him fondly. Another Angel went home. God Bless you Marg.
I was very saddened to hear of Wendell’s passing. He had a kind and generous heart. I have lots of memories of him, as our friendship spanned many years. As we got older and had both moved away from Cape Breton, he still made an effort to stay in touch and came to PEI many times to visit with my family and me.
Thinking of all his family and friends at this time. Rest in peace Sugar Bear.
Marg, Allister, Byron and Ralph – Thinking of you and wishing you moments of peace and comfort as you remember Wendell.
